  • Dynamics of Colour Photo Contest Winners
by Rob Wood (Admin) on September 25, 2026 at 3:07 am

One of the interesting things about the entries in this month's colour theme of “the dynamics of colour” is that so many of the strongest entries chose to use a single colour to draw the reader's interest and I think that says something quite powerful about the use of colour in photography. • Turning Woe Back To Wow in Photography
by Jason Row on September 22, 2026 at 10:08 am

I have often said that there are six stages to a photographer’s life. The very first is wow, that moment when you realise that photography is for you, something that is going to consume you for many years to come. The second stage is woe. That’s the defining moment when you realise that there is The post Turning Woe Back To Wow in Photography appeared first on Light Stalking.

  • Meta Sued Over Using People’s Photos for AI and Facial Recognition
by Rob Wood (Admin) on September 14, 2026 at 1:58 am

There's a new proposed class action lawsuit against Meta that alleges they harvested Facebook and Instagram photographs for biometric information that was used to train image generation models and develop an, as yet, unreleased facial recognition feature called Nametag for smart glasses. Meta says that the lawsuit has misrepresented the situation and notes that Nametag The post Meta Sued Over Using People’s Photos for AI and Facial Recognition appeared first on Light Stalking.

  • The Megapixel Myth
by Jason Row on September 4, 2026 at 4:00 am

My Sony has 61 million pixels. I could buy a Fuji with 100 million pixels. I could even buy a Samsung phone with 200 million pixels. All of this sounds very impressive until you realise that 99% of us never need that many pixels 99% of the time. The reason these high megapixel counts sound The post The Megapixel Myth appeared first on Light Stalking.

  • Leaving Lightroom
by Jason Row on August 28, 2026 at 9:34 am

I have a confession. For several years, I have had access to Lightroom and Photoshop for free. Not because I am an illegal downloader but because I submitted to Adobe Stock. Adobe contributors that made over a certain amount of sales per year were given either the Lightroom/Photoshop package or a full Adobe subscription to The post Leaving Lightroom appeared first on Light Stalking.

Hands holding a vintage rangefinder camera with attached lens, viewed from above

A 75mm f/1.4 is a short telephoto that isolates a subject without forcing you to back across the room, and the Thypoch Simera 75mm f/1.4 brings that focal length to Leica M mount in an all-metal body. Because it's a manual focus rangefinder lens, plenty of people will adapt it to mirrorless cameras, which raises fair questions about how much performance survives the trip.

Man holding Sony 600mm f/6.3 telephoto lens mounted on camera body

A 600mm prime that weighs about 1 kg and costs $3,698 reads like a list of compromises, and Sony's new 600mm f/6.3 asks you to give up aperture in exchange for a lens you can carry without a second thought. If you shoot birds or wildlife handheld, the gap between a lens you can hold for five minutes and one you can hold all morning decides how many chances you actually get.

Hand holding a telephoto camera lens against a clear blue sky

Packing for a trip usually turns into a negotiation between the 35mm, the 50mm, and the zoom, and plenty of people settle it by bringing all three. Whether that extra glass earns its place in the bag affects how you shoot, how much you carry, and how many moments you actually catch.

Woman in plaid shirt working on aircraft engine assembly in industrial setting

In March 1942, the Acme photo agency sent a photographer to Naval Air Station Alameda for a story about what women should and should not wear around machinery. On March 24, he made a frame of a 20-year-old machine shop worker bent over a lathe, her hair tied back in a polka-dot bandanna. Somebody then typed a caption with her name in it, glued the slip to the back of the print, and shipped it out to newspapers.

For over a decade, Pixieset has built its name on gallery hosting and then expanded into photography business management with Studio Manager. Now it turns its head to tackling what happens in the gap between the shoot and the delivered gallery. Pixieset Photo Editor is an AI-assisted culling and raw editing app for photographers that brings culling, editing, and gallery delivery into one workflow. Photographers can cull large shoots, batch edit in their own style, make advanced raw adjustments, and publish finished photos directly to a Pixieset gallery.
